Leverage on unique diversity to achieve IT development: Infosys

Striking an optimistic note on development of the IT sector in Kerala, Infosys Technologies Co-Chairman Kris Gopalakrishnan has said the state should leverage on its unique diversity to achieve this goal.

"There are huge opportunities in Kerala, which should be utilised fully. The diversity in Kerala is not found anywhere else in the country. So that's what we need to leverage," he said, speaking at the 15th Calicut Management Association's annual convention here.

Gopalakrishnan noted that changes are happening in Kerala, especially when one looks at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, the Infopark at Kakknad (near Kochi) and the number of IT companies that are already here.

He said he was "very optimistic" about the future. "If we actually collectively decide that we want to change, we want to impact, it will happen... It's all in our hands and the smaller the city is, it is easier, because less number of people are involved," he said.

Gopalakrishnan said the reason why the IT industry has scaled itself up is because companies adapted to the changing times, providing them with huge growth opportunities.

"The last 60 to 65 years have seen the world change dramatically and one of the key instruments that helped the change was computers," he said. Earlier, Calicut University Vice-Chancellor M Abdul Salam inaugurated the programme.
